Walking the Perimeter

Rituals are very important in our everyday life. They provide a sense of comfort and predictability in a very unpredictable world. In the spring and summer, my partner Jude and I do this thing after dinner that we call "walking the perimeter." We walk all around my house and look at my garden. I pull some weeds; she laughs about me knowing the names of all the plants and I get frustrated when I see that the rabbits have once again nibbled my hostas down to the ground. It's not a long walk, so sometimes we do it twice. It's simple, it's connecting and is a good transition from dinner to the evening activity which is often sitting on the couch and watching shows.
