TV GUIDE: The Jeffersons (George and Weezy)

12x8 oil on panel, black floater frame

The show The Jeffersons was about a nouveau riche African-American couple, George and Louise, and was one of the spin-offs of All in the Family. George was considered, by some, to be a "Black Archie Bunker" because they were both blunt, opinionated complainers, and just all around combative people, which makes them incredibly endearing if you ask me (a blunt, opinionated complainer).

My favorite character in the show, was probably Florence, the sassy, no-nonsense maid. In the wars of George vs. Florence, I was team Florence. She never took any shit, and was the Queen of the smart-ass come-back. George and Florence trading insults was pure comedy gold. If anyone wanted me to paint Florence for them, I wouldn't be mad. Just puttin' it out there.

Apropos of nothing, here's a fun fact: Roxie Roker, who played Helen Willis, the Jefferson's black neighbor who married a white man (first inter-racial tv couple), was married to a white man in real life, Sy Kravitz. Their son is the musician Lennie Kravitz. This fun fact, brought to you by google. Google. The internet search engine that knows everything except where I left my keys. 😡
