One of the most beautiful parts of my father was his ability to be fully present while being very quiet. He was a quiet, humble man who didn't need to say much in order for you to know that he was there. It was in the silent spaces I felt most connected to him - hours and hours in the garden barely saying a word - but there was an understanding and a belonging to the earth and each other. It is the shared silence that I miss the most.
