When I was pregnant with my eldest, I went to Istanbul on vacation. We rented a little apartment and made our breakfast from whatever we bought at the market on our morning stroll. The rest of the days were filled with sightseeing, eating, and just exploring the city. It was on our third day there that we saw the swirling dervishes dance in real, and it did not disappoint. I loved the movement and the dramatic lighting, I loved the coordination between each dancer and I loved the atmosphere that the dance brought with it.
In this painting, I wanted to recreate the surreal feeling I got watching the dancers move gracefully and lightly, as if they had wings on their feet. I hope it transports you to dance with him as well.
