Rudolph and Hermey

8x8 oil on panel, black floater frame

Hermey and Rudolph represent every nerdy kid who got bullied in school and never felt like they belonged.

So, Hermey went on to become a dentist, because revenge is a dish best served by scaring the crap out of bullies with dental instruments, I guess? I once saw a statistic that said 86% of people in the United States have some fear of dental treatment. The other 50% are meth-heads who don't have any teeth. (I think that's right. I'm a painter, not a mathemagician).

And, of course, Rudolph went on to lead the sleigh team, because, HELLO! Can you say "nepo-baby?!" His father, Donner, was one of only eight, elite reindeer on Santa's sleigh team. I'll bet Donner even used his celebrity to make all of Rudolph's "flying while drunk" arrests disappear faster than Ted Cruz during a snow-emergency in Texas.

Sheesh. What was I talking about again? Right! Hermey and Rudolph.

These two are from the classic stop motion Rankin/Bass Christmas Special: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Followers of mine will know how much I love stop motion. I love it more than the saber-toothed squirrel from the movie "Ice Age" loves acorns, which is to say, it's a slight obsession of mine. Or what others might call, "a mentally unhinged pathological fixation". (Tomato – Tomahto).
