Mute swans are huge! They are one of the largest native waterfowls and heaviest flying birds in North America. Mute swans have very few natural predators. They mate for life and are very territorial during their breeding season. They are fierce protectors of their nests and will even attack humans who are intruding on their space. They puff up their wings, called "busking", to make themselves appear larger and scare other birds away from their territory.
