What do cats and butterflies mean to me? I always liked cats, but didn't really plan to own one. Then our son adopted a cat while in college, and somehow he now lives with us. It is fun to have the cat around now that our son lives far away. Every day he makes us smile, and often annoys us, and we think of Evan. Butterflies have a special meaning for me. When my mom was dying she asked me what I thought really happened when you die. She knew what her faith told her, but she was still wondering. I told her about a woman who had a near death experience and described it as a butterfly busting out of its chysalis and flying away. She liked that idea and together we spent her last few months buying pj's and many other things with butterflies. A few minutes after she passed away, I was outside calling her sister when a butterfly landed on my toe. I was sitting beside the flowerbed that attracted many butterflies, so it may have been a coincidence, but I like to think it was mom just letting me know that she was ok. Our son and my mom had a special bond. She was his biggest fan and he looked up to her for support and unconditional love.
