The Can Can Dancer

I was born in February and while it's not at the end of the month, I was always terrified that something would happen and February would be further truncated. This fear was not innate, it was whispered into my ear over a sandwich and a tv program I was watching in 5th grade by a friend. "What if they change the rules for February? it's a strange month. What if suddenly it only has 10 days and you only celebrate your birthday every leap year?" Laugh if you must, but it placed a tiny seed of doubt in my mind. So I decided I would honor leap years, just in case my birthday would only be celebrated on those too rare years. And what better way to do that than to watch the Olympics? It soon became a love of mine, to watch the Olympics. I always watch some part of the it and I at least try to catch the opening ceremony and the synchronized swimming. This year was no exception, and while the opening ceremony was controversial to some, I enjoyed the can can dancers. This painting is inspired by the can can dance and its energy.
